Dr. Mekdes briefed the delegation on the ongoing preparations, schedule, and related logistical matters for the assembly, expressing her delight that the World Health Organization selected Ethiopia to host the regional meeting.
For his part, Prof. Mohamed Janabi stated that after touring and evaluating the event arrangements, he observed that security, venue setup, and transport provisions are in excellent order. He also expressed full confidence that the conference will be conducted successfully.
The third annual workshop aims to strengthen national collaboration and create a shared learning network by bringing together senior officials from the health, finance, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sectors from East and Southern Africa.
Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba explained that the main objective of the workshop is to bring about a shared regional digital health vision capable of building a more equitable, resilient, and financially sustainable primary health care system.
Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh stated that Ethiopia is working with determination to shape the future of our continent through medical education and digital innovation.
Mr. Temesgen noted that our country is serving as a regional center of excellence by training health professionals from across Africa in its higher medical education institutions.
He added that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopia is preparing to become a model for the continent in artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba stated that the governments of Ethiopia and the United States have been jointly executing multifaceted cooperation works in the health sector for a long time, and noted that results have been achieved particularly in expanding digital health services, preventing malaria epidemics, expanding maternal and child health, as well as curbing the spread of TB and HIV/AIDS.
Discussions were held on various health topics in the presence of the Ethiopian delegation during the side events of the #WHA79 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Building on the foundation and framework laid by the leaders of the two countries to cooperate among countries in the region within the CARICOM framework, Ethiopia and Barbados have begun various initiatives.
