DATA WEEK

The first ‘National Health Data Week’ is being observed at all hierarchies of the health regulatory and delivery system including the FMoH and affiliated agencies, regional health bureaus and other stakeholders, with emphasis on the need to maintain health data quality. The federal level event to launch the week-long program took place at the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) Monday 14 Oct. 2022.

Minister of Health Inaugurates New Facilities at Queen Eleni Mohamed Memorial Comprehensive Specialized Hospital

 Minister of Health Dr.Liya Tadesse has presided over the launch of various facilities intended to enhance delivery of improved medical services at the Queen Eleni Mohamed Memorial Comprehensive Specialized Hospital of Wachamo University. 

Ethiopia has vaccinated more than 20 million of its citizens against Covid-19!

Public Relations and Communication Director, Dr. Tegene Regassa, who released a press statement about the 2nd round Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign, announced that the second round Vaccination campaign has been launched nationwide since February 14, 2022; and including the 14 million people who received vaccination through this round, more than 20 million people have been so far vaccinated in the country.

FMoH, Agencies Support Emergency Drought Response in Somali Regional State

A team from the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), the Ethiopian Public Health Institute and the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Service has handed over donated drugs, medical supplies and supplementary food to primary hospitals and health centers in drought affected localities of Somali Regional State. 


The donation, worth about 31 million Birr, will be distributed among six primary hospitals and six health centers in Somali Regional State for use in their drought related emergency response. 

High-Level Delegation Visits Borana Zone

A high-level delegation headed by the Federal Ministries of Health and Agriculture and  comprising representatives from WHO, FAO and UNICEF today visited drought affected areas in Borana Zone of Oromia Regional State. In Dubluk district, the delegation observed acute malnutrition treatment activities and water quality testing activities at Dubluk Health center.

A team of senior officials from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Food and Agriculture Organization led by the Federal Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture, visited the drought-stricken Shebele Zone of the Somali region.

The team has visited Gode General Hospital’s malnutritional treatment center and emergency response treatment as well as the vaccination, nutrition, drinking water supply and veterinary support services in Gode Woreda provided by the coordinated efforts of the Federal, Regional and Partner organizations.

In addition to the visit, the delegation held discussions with the President of the Region, his excellency Mr. Mustafa Mohamed, and other regional officials on drought response plan and support.

Radiation Therapy Center Inaugurated at Jima University Hospital

Ethiopia’s second radiology center has opened at the Jima University Hospital. The opening of the center will significantly expand access to radiation treatment for cancer patients which was so far available only at the Black Lion Specialized Hospital.

 
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister of Health Dr.Liya Tadesse said work is underway to build seven additional centers in different parts of the country in response to the worrying trends in cancer prevalence and incidence,   and a large backlog of cancer patients waiting to access treatment across Ethiopia. 

Samaritan’s Purse International Disaster Relief Donates 12.5 million birr worth of medical supplies and equipment to Ethiopia

The Minister of Health, Dr. Lia Tadesse, received support from Samaritan’s Purse International Disaster Relief Country Director Ryan Lane. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lia said the US-based Samaritan’s Purse International Disaster Relief has been supporting our country in various areas including drinking water supply and sanitation, Covid-19, and other emergency responses, and now have provided 12.5 million birr worth of medical supplies and equipment to Ethiopia. 
 

Distribution of Diaspora Donated Pharmaceuticals Underway

The Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supplies Agency has started the distribution of drugs and medical supplies donated by members of the Ethiopian diaspora to health facilities impacted by the war. Benefiting from the latest disbursement started 11 Feb. 2022 are hospitals and health centers in Shoarobit, Ataye, Kemise, Kombolcha, and Dessie, all located in Amhara Regional State. The next round of distribution will target health facilities in Afar Regional State.
