eCHIS

The Electronic Community Health Information System (eCHIS) is a high priority initiative of the Information Revolution, demonstrating the MOH’s intentions to further utilize technology and data to improve health service delivery, starting at the community level. The eCHIS is the digitized version of the paper based CHIS, one of the backbones of the much successful Ethiopia’s health extension program. The content is now digitized into a mobile platform for use by health extension workers (HEW) around the country.

All sections of the governments have a responsibility to protect public safety and provide emergency relief in a crisis. Therefore national, regional, facility and pre-facility disaster preparedness is most important. It is mandatory to institutionalize a standard emergency and disaster management system by correlating the clinical emergency response with the public health emergency management through creating surge capacity at facilities, interlinkage between facilities which translates to regional capacity.

Trauma, regardless of its economic and health burden on society, has never been given the accordant type of emphasis in our country. It was until the last couple of years that it started to be consider as a major public health concern and much needed attention started to be given to it. The increasing burden of burn and poisoning has not yet been met with a. system that can cope. For these reasons the Ministry of Health recently took the initiative to work on injury preventive mechanisms, timely and effective treatments as well as rehabilitative care to the community.

Intensive and critical care unit is a designated area of a hospital facility that is dedicated to the care of patients who are seriously ill. There main function is to provide optimal life support and provide adequate monitoring of vital function. A well-organized intensive and critical care services is one of the indicator of quality of health care. In light of the growing needs and the increase in burden of non-communicable disease and current COVID-19 pandemic, there is a clear gap in critical care capacity of the country.
