EFELTP Accreditation

Ethiopian field epidemiology and laboratory Training program was started in 2009 and expanded from one university to eight universities and 45 field bases. Since its inception, the advanced field epidemiologist graduates (surveillance and response workforce) number has become over 700 nationally

The program which is now the largest globally had applied for global accreditation and accordingly made the necessary preparations for the past one year. In July 2022 a team from Atlanta, USA came and made assessments and verifications based on international standards.

During the 11th TEPHINET Global Scientific Conference held in Panama from September 4-9, 2022, the TEPHINET Global Accrediting Body (GAB) convened to decide on the accreditation of Field Epidemiology Training Programs (FETPs) that applied during TEPHINET’s most recent cycle (6th cycle) of accreditation. As a result, we are pleased to announce that the advanced-level Ethiopia Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (EFELTP) has been Accredited by TEPHINET's Global Accrediting Body (GAB).

Accreditation is a long-term process that demands team commitment and effective leadership. The Ministry of Health-Ethiopia (MOH-E) and Ethiopia FELTP, in collaboration with other stakeholders, have gone through a lot of preparatory work and readiness assessments which led to subsequent performance improvement which helped the program meet TEPHINET's accreditation standards.

We would like to congratulate all team members of Ethiopia FELTP, Universities, the EPHI, partners, and FETP graduates who worked with complete dedication and consistency for such an extraordinary achievement. We also thank the TEPHINET's Global Accrediting Body and assure that MOH-Ethiopia, in collaboration with other stakeholders and partners, remains committed to supporting EFELTP to meet and keep the international standards, and, thus, strengthen the epidemiologic and surveillance capacity of the country's public health system.
