A discussion was held with senior members of the institution from Switzerland regarding the performance and implementation of the Global Fund

Global Fund

Lyndon Morrison, Head of Department of High Impact Africa and head of the delegation, said in a discussion with a group of senior management and experts from the Global Fund's headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, that Ethiopia has faced various problems, but they are happy because of the good performance of the health programs supported by the Global Fund.


Ministry of Health Dr. Lia Tadese stated that the programs implemented under the Global Fund and the covid prevention activities have yielded good results. Dr. Lia said that foreign currency instability and conflict are problems encountered in the performance and implementation of the Global Fund. Dr. Lia said that the supply problems encountered should be solved and she appreciated the participation of partner organizations in the performance and implementation of the Global Fund.


George Sackvarlidz, Senior Portfolio Manager of High Impact Africa said that despite the problems like Covid, they are able to create better ties and partnerships with Ethiopia.


The senior manager stated that they will work with the Ministry of Finance to address the cost of living and foreign exchange instability, and said that the supply disruption experienced at the international level is a major problem for performance.


Dr. Abera Bekele, who presented an assessment of the overall performance of the Global Fund's assistance against TB, HIV, Malaria and Covid, said that Ethiopia's national implementation is generally good.


Dr. Abera stated that the strengthening of the laboratory system at the national level and the strengthening of quality inspection operations and the digitization of the health management information system have also been done.


Dr. Abera said that although the covid epidemic is increasing now, it is encouraging that the distribution of vaccines is going well. He noted that distribution of resources and disruptions of procurement were challenges faced.


The state Minister of Health, Dr. Derje Duguma, stated that the Global Fund report will be included in the implementation plan for health performance, and stated that the implementation of the Global Fund is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Health. Dr. Dereje said that the Ministry of Health will work to solve problems such as covid, drought and other problems faced at the national level.
