Dr. Hiwot Solomon is Lead Executive Officer, Disease Prevention and Control, overseeing Malaria and other vector borne, TB, Leprosy and other lung diseases, Non communicable Disease, eye health, mental health and Neglected Tropical Diseases. She is Public health specialist with ample experience in Communicable and Non-communicable disease program management at the Federal Ministry of Health in Ethiopia. Prior to her current position she served as a director for disease prevention and control directorate managing HIV and other communicable and non-communicable diseases. In her current and previous positions contributed to a wide range of programs. These include strategic and policy level engagements such as leading the development of national program strategic plans, guidelines, program preview and development of multi-year grants. She successfully led the malaria prevention and control program for seven years. During her leadership, the malaria prevention and control program evolved from malaria control to malaria elimination phase.
Dr. Hiwot received her Bachelor of Science from Addis Ababa University, her Master of Public Health from Masstricht University, Netherlands and her Doctor of public health from the University of South Africa.
