The Chinese government has donated 321,000 doses of cholera vaccine to Ethiopia.
At the handover ceremony, the Minister of Health, Dr. Mekdes Daba, thanked the Chinese people and government for their support, saying that this support demonstrates the strong partnership between the two countries. The Minister, who requested that the support be continued, expressed her belief that the ongoing cooperation between the two countries in the health sector will continue to be strengthened.
It has been officially reported that the data collection phase of the Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS) is now 100% complete.
This milestone was confirmed during a high-level streeing committee meeting, marking a critical step toward evidence-based planning and policymaking across key sectors. With data gathering finalized, the process now advances to data processing, analysis, and report writing—setting the stage for vital insights into Ethiopia’s health and demographic profile.
In the presence of Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba; Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia Shibata Hironori and Minister of Finance Ato Ahmed Shide signed a bilateral agreement regarding the financial support provided by the Japanese government to Ethiopia.
Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba expressed her gratitude to the government and people of Japan, stating that the financial support provided by the Japanese government will further strengthen the journey started to establish a strong health system in Ethiopia and will enhance the professional skills of medical professionals.
The team provided $430,000 in medical equipment and training to conduct voluntary neurosurgery at Jimma University Medical Center, Zewditu Memorial Hospital, and Black Lion Hospital.
This partnership demonstrates the potential of Ethiopian diaspora expertise and international cooperation, said Health Minister Dr. Mekdes Daba; and called for continued support to strengthen neurosurgery and stroke care in Ethiopia.
The surgical campaign is being conducted not only at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium College but also at Alert Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. The team includes specialists and subspecialists in cardiac, liver, pancreatic, urinary tract, orthopedic, laparoscopic (without opening the abdomen) surgery, as well as eye and upper neck surgery, as well as many medical experts from the country.
