The medical oxygen production center installed at Gambella General Hospital in Gambella region at a cost of thirty one million birr was inaugurated today in the presence of senior officials of the region and the Ministry of Health. This oxygen plant is funded by the generous support of Unitaid.
The President of Gambella region Mr. Umed Ujulu delivered his welcome message at the inauguration ceremony. He said that the construction of a medical oxygen production center at the Gambella General Hospital, the only one in the region, will help development activities in the region.
The State Minister of Health, Dr. Dereje Duguma, on his part mentioned that medical oxygen is an important resource for providing health services. He stated that it is important to have enough medical oxygen in order to save the lives of mothers and children, especially in the case of Covid-19 and man-made and emergency treatment. He said that the Ministry of Health and its partners are working hard to deliver health resources to all regions of the country. Dr. Dereje expressed his gratitude to those who contributed to the success of the construction, especially the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).
The head of the regional health office, Rohot Gatwich, said that the production of medical oxygen in the region will enable the provision of health services in the region and neighboring regions. He also pointed out that it is possible to produce 100 medical oxygen cylinders per day.
At the inaugural ceremony, Clinton Health Access Initiative Director Dr. Rahel delivered her message and invited guests were present.
Besides the inauguration ceremony, Gambella City General Hospital and Primary Hospital as well as Gambella Blood Bank Branch and Red Cross were visited.
