Health and Health Related Institutions Regulatory

Introduction

Health and Health Related Institutions Regulatory Directorate is established to regulate health and health related institutions which are under the federal government and to support regional health regulatory bodies. The directorate has two case teams; Health Institutions Regulation Case Team and Health Related Institutions Regulation Case Team.

Mission

To protect the public by ensuring safety and quality of health and health related services through pre license inspection, licensing and post license inspection of health institutions and hygiene and environmental health inspection of health-related institutions, community participation, collaboration and provision of up-to-date regulatory information.

Roles and Responsibilities

Regulating health facilities which are under the federal government (Pre license inspection, issue and renew certificate of competency, post license inspection, follow the correction of identified gaps and take administrative measures when necessary)
Regulating hygiene and environmental health of health-related institutions which are under the federal government (university, prison, refugee camp, hotels above four-star, food and drinking establishments at international airports) and follow the correction of identified gaps and take administrative measures when necessary.
Assist the development and revision of national health and health related institutions standards in collaboration with Ethiopian Standard Agency
Ensure the implementation of national health and health related institutions standards
Record national health facilities information using a database system (Master Facility Registry) and avail full national data
Conduct national health facilities assessment according to the national standards, label health facilities (green, yellow and red) and take actions as necessary
Capacity building and support for regional health regulatory bodies (training, technical and financial support)
