H.E Dr.Amir Aman Hagos
Minister of MOH
H.E. Dr. Amir Aman Hagos is the Minister of Health (MOH) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.A physician by training,with a master’s degree in public health, heis a dedicated public health professional and has served asa medical practitioner in a primary hospital in a small town of Oromia Regional state.
Prior to his appointment as Minister,he served as Director General of Policy and Planning Directorate and Director of Human Resources Directorate, and was finally serving as State Minister of Health in MOH.
During his tenure, he has successfully increased the mobilization of human and financial resources, ensuring the effective implementationof the MOH’s five-year health development plan and is now spearheading the health sector transformation plan.
Dr. Amir is known for championing and inspiring the new generation of health professionals through dedicated public service and has inspired volunteerism. His exemplary work on how he provided leadership in increasing the quality and volume of medical services in a district hospital has also been profiledas a model of public service in various media outlets. Heis a committed proponent and champion of Ethiopia’s highly regarded Health Extension Program,and his master’s degree is dedicated to investigating and developing strategies for theeffective selection and training and means of increasingthe retention of Health Extension Workers. He also servedas Chair of the African Centers for Disease Control and is currently Co-Chair of the World Health Organization’s Transforming IHP+ International Health Partnership for UHC 2030, which is dedicated to building a partnership for strengthening health systems.
In 2017, the University of the Western Cape, where he earned a Masters degree in public health, gave him its "outstanding alumni" awards at a ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa.
