Health Minister Dr. Lia Tadesse today received 10 million of the 20 million doses of covid vaccine promised by the Chinese government to Ethiopia. Dr. Lia received the donation from the Ambassador of China to Ethiopia, Zhao Zhiyuan.
During the handover, the Minister of Health, Dr. Lia Tadesse, thanked the Chinese government for its support to efforts to prevent covid 19 disease; of the 10 million vaccines donated to Ethiopia, 5 million were donated by the First Lady of China. According to Dr. Lia, the donation has reached the Ministry of Health on behalf of the First Lady of Ethiopia, Zinash Tayachew; she added that the vaccine is primarily accessible to mothers and young people.
Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Zhao Zhiyuan said the Chinese government has already provided 4 million doses of the vaccine to prevent and control the spread of the virus in Ethiopia. He said the 10 million doses are handed over today and the support will continue to be strengthened as the long-standing friendship between Ethiopia and China is strong.
