An Ethiopian delegation led by the Minister of State for Health Dr. Dereje Duguma participated in the 66th IAEA General Assembly held in Vienna, Austria under the theme፡ "International Cooperation in the Nuclear Field!"


Held at the agency's headquarters at the Vienna International Center (VIC) in Vienna, Austria, the conference covered topics ranging from nuclear technology and science to medical technologies; In particular, they advised on nuclear technology and science topics used in various medical fields, including cancer radiation therapy.


At the 66th IAEA General Assembly, Ethiopian representatives had a direct discussion with the Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT) program group and discussed the future technical cooperation between Ethiopia and the IAEA.


Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT) in Ethiopia has reached a consensus to develop a joint plan based on the needs of the country by strengthening the collaborative work on cancer radiation treatment.


In addition, the Ethiopian delegation held a joint discussion with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi at his office.
In the discussion, IAEA's cooperation with Ethiopia's cancer prevention and treatment and the future direction of cooperation were widely discussed.


Honorable Dr. Dereje Duguma appreciated the long-term partnership and cooperation between Ethiopia and the IAEA in promoting cancer treatment over the past two decades and asked for it to be strengthened. Senior officials and representatives of IAEA member countries also participated in the meeting.
