Dr. Meseret Zelalem

Hon. Dr. Meseret Zelalem has been leading maternal, child and adolescent lead executive offices. Currently, she is a steering committee member for the GAVI Zero Dose and GIS/GAVI Investment strategy, Global IEF/Innovation Equity Forum at Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, engaged in several advisory boards national and Global level, such as the WHO Technical Advisory Team for the African region, WHO Pneumonia and Diarrhea Pediatrics Guideline .Prior to her current role, she served as the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Minister at FMoH and the Medical Director of the Gondar University Hospital, among other positions. Dr. Meseret obtained her MD and specialty in Pediatrics from University of Gondar.

By the time the COVID-19 pandemic brought a far reaching impact on the RMNCH program globally, Dr Meseret played a crucial role in designing several mitigation measures that helped in the containment of covid-19 pandemic and prevented the RMNCH services from disruption.     

As a promising and currently elected political leader, Dr. Meseret designed low cost high impact healthcare initiatives to reduce Maternal and Newborn deaths from preventable causes that have helped tremendously in bringing down MMR.  Also played a pivotal role in reaching out to zero dose children in Ethiopia.

She is also actively engaged in research and published more than 30 articles in internationally reputable journals, delivers presentations, chair and moderated in several international forums in person and virtually paved the way for numerous young women leaders within the LEO to exercise leadership roles. She is also passionate in Adolescent and young people's health and empowerment through meaningful youth engagement to make the dream into reality in particular to see the current and future Ethiopia is more developed, prosperous and become influential at the continental and global level.
